We are Daniel and Roxana Contreras. I graduated from Lacy Baptist Theological Seminary in Oaxca, Mexico, three years ago and was commissioned by our conference to plant a church in the village of San Carlos, Coahuila. For the past three years, our family has been diligently evangelizing, building relationships, discipling, and teaching the Word among the 3,500 residents of the community. Now, thanks to the Lord, we have a thriving Bible Club of 25 children on Saturday mornings, 11 youth who attend our discipleship class on Saturday afternoons, and a steady group of believers attending Sunday services each week. One day each week, we gather with the adult believers to have Bible study together. The other days of the week we use to evangelize and conduct home visits. We meet outside of our home under a tarp, but temps in the area reach over 100 for five months of the year and drop to 40 and below in the winter. Meeting out of doors in those extremes is difficult.
Our work in San Carlos also includes coordinating activities and outreaches in the community that are supported by the convention churches who support us. We receive medical brigades and groups who come to evangelize. We dispense physical help to the community in the form of food and school supplies that the churches donate for the mission. We coordinate services that include these other supporting churches as well as evangelistic events for the community.
Recently, God miraculously provided for the purchase of a large corner property adjacent to the house that we rent. It has an open structure with walls but no roof or floor. Now we have begun to save for the materials needed to finish the roof and floor of the building so that we can have a meeting place out of the elements. Although the quantity is much more than we could ever hope to raise ourselves, we are not discouraged or dismayed, because we have seen how God miraculously provided for the land and we know that all the resources in the world belong to him and are at his disposal. We also hope to find churches, individuals, and teams who are willing to come and help with this building project – to build a church for the Lord in San Carlos. Perhaps He will use you!
