Daniel & Sarah Zagami

Nakivale Refugee Camp in Southwestern Uganda is the oldest refugee camp in Africa. It has about 122,000 refugees, many of whom have fled their homes in eastern Congo. Through connections in our church plant in Clarkston, we started a missionary training there in early 2022. The class began with 43 students and after many left for resettlement or other opportunities, 13 students have finally graduated. Daniel will travel to the Nakivale camp August 20-29 to do some teaching and to graduate them. It will be good to finally meet them in person and discuss their next steps.

Last year I (Sarah) began to pray for opportunities to connect with Muslim women in our community once again. The Lord answered that prayer! In January, while attending an event at the nearby Arabic Church, I learned that some of the Egyptian Christian women are teaching English to Syrian refugee women that have arrived in Clarkston in the past few months. They invited me to join them.

Both the Syrians and the Egyptians speak Arabic as a first language so it’s fun to watch them interact. I’m picking up Arabic words while also making suggestions for the English class as the native English speaker. Every class begins with a prayer in Arabic. It’s incredible to hear these Muslim women prayed for in the name of Jesus in their native language!
