Our calling came with brokenness. We have experienced God’s love and mercy as he has restored our broken lives and called us to serve with the abilities and talents he has given us.
As Guatemalans and having experienced American culture closely, we began serving with translation and providing cultural knowledge to both Guatemalans and Americans in order to eliminate language barrier, facilitating evangelism and sharing the Gospel. This went from being a part time hobby to a full time calling, from something we would do on our spare time to something we all loved doing and felt passionate about.
We believe our work as a family helps to advance the kingdom of God as we become the cultural bridge by not only providing translation to the language but also understanding the culture. We provide a voice to the foreigners who come and desire to speak the Word of God but are limited in their ability to communicate. Likewise, we are a voice for the people of our own country as it is easier for our people to communicate with us because they see us as equals and we can understand and convey their ideas and thoughts more accurately. There are moments when even though there is a language barrier, translation allows that barrier to disappear and we become one as in the kingdom of God.
Wendy currently serves in our church, Calvary Chapel Antigua Guatemala and Bible College with translation and any other ministries that require her service. She translates for pastors who require written translation to be able to preach in Spanish. Juan Pablo serves part time with translation and part time with Servants Hearts Ministries building homes in impoverished communities. The girls serve in translation, worship and children’s ministries.
We are blessed to be a part of what God is doing in Guatemala, we have nothing to offer him and he does not need us but he chooses to use us despite of all our flaws. What a privilege it is to be active participants in His work and see His glory!
A good interpreter is the one who is invisible and makes everyone’s attention focus on the main speaker, our job is to make everyone’s attention focus on Jesus because it is all about HIM!
