Stephen Osborn

Hello. I am Steve Osborn. Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me.  I have been helping people help people full time for over 30 years. A wide range of experience has given me a large technical skills set. But my deep joy comes in relationships.

For over 20 years, my focus has been care for disadvantaged children in Guatemala. For most of this time, that meant helping build and renovate various Children’s Homes, and live and work with the children there. But there has been an evolution in my thinking. As we considered the huge numbers of hurting children throughout the country, we realized we cannot build enough Children’s Homes to meet the need. And maybe that might not be the answer, anyway.

We then became aware that the Bible always referred to widows and orphans together. I feel like the model of orphanages was only part of the solution, in that we only addressed the children. It’s seems to me that if we could help one widow we could help many children. So we started focusing on communities and families, 70% of which were single mom households.  We need to reevaluate what the Bible means when it says widow. When a woman is left from her husband dying or from him running away I believe the result is the same. It’s not just difficult to be a single mom in Guatemala, it is impossible. We want to be a voice of invitation to the local churches as I believe the number one job of the local church just might to minister to single moms and their kids in their distress.

And so we are preparing to open community resource centers in which we train parents and help children.  The most important opportunity we can give both parents and children is an opportunity to have a relationship with God. That is the basis for the healing and transformation that can come to the brokenhearted and those held captive by their own and others’ sins. I know, because I have and am experiencing the healing power of God’s presence.

Our first center will be in Chimaltenango, about an hour west of Guatemala City. Our activities include personal discipleship, especially with adolescents who have never known their fathers, and also resources for study, for health, for nutrition and sustenance.

Please e-mail me at steveosborn60@gmail.com if you would like to help, or better yet, come and visit us! Come and see what a beautiful country Guatemala is, and what precious people live here. Then you can see how you may be able to help us help the needy children!

To raise support, I have partnered with Commission Ministers Network.
