Absalom & Karla Puente

Our ministry in Villa Real began 3 years ago with the vision of planting a new church in the area. Recognizing the calling God had placed on my heart to plant a church, the pastors of our coalition of churches commissioned my wife and I to go and plant a church in the area. With great joy and anticipation for what God would do, we moved to Villa Real and embraced the challenge of building a church from the ground up. We have worked diligently as a family to connect with people, get to know them, and share the gospel. The coalition churches and other local churches in Piedras Negras have occasionally supported us in evangelistic events, while we have served as a family full-time in this location. We have organized various activities, such as vacation Bible school, free clothing bazaars, and providing for physical needs. When resources donated by other churches and Christian families, including clothes, shoes, household items, etc., we use it as an opportunity to share the gospel.

During the past 3 years, we have established Sunday and Thursday services and a weekly children’s club in our home, as well as visitation and evangelism days, which are subject to change due to drastic weather changes and the availability of people willing to receive us in their homes. Our congregation has grown to 25-30, and we have 20 children who regularly attend the mid-week Bible club. We also maintain contact with each of the families of the children who regularly attend. In some cases, we have developed friendships and have presented the gospel, hoping that God will work in His own time. Most of the parents of the children have attended one of our Sunday worship services, and we are in the process of continuing to share the gospel with each family. We have invested significant time discipling and teaching the youth and new believers. At this time, we are feeling the growing pains and the pressure of a congregation that has outgrown the space we have available in our small home. So, we are praying that God will provide a bigger physical location for the church in the community so that it will continue to grow.
