Rolando & Lisa Monterroso

In Guatemala, my husband and I started a ministry called Spokes Cafe. The image of a wheel describes its work–God is in the center and spokes (people) connect the center to help turn the wheel. We encouraged community among staff, volunteers, and customers. At least one barista at a time was experiencing his/her first job after leaving a children’s home. Through Spokes, he/she received job skills, life skills, and mentoring/ encouragement to experience God’s love and know his/her identity in Him. I also provided occupational therapy to children with disabilities in children’s homes.

Now after transitioning to the States, we hope to start another Spokes Cafe here as a base for discipleship, life skill training, and community building. We are in the very beginning phase, and as we learn, pray, and plan for direction for location, exact details, we will provide ministry in our local church and community. Rolando will volunteer with some local coffee shops to learn business and coffee logistics in the States. I am looking for a part-time job in occupational therapy and will also spend some time doing ministry with our church and also continue to home school our kids to finish this school year. Through all these things, we hope and pray to bring glory to God and help those around us to experience His kingdom.
